How to Use Microsoft Office to Generate PDF Output in Report Designer

info

Because of vagueness in the PDF specification, using Microsoft Office to generate PDF output from report templates rather than the Windward PDF renderer can sometimes improve the fidelity of the output.

To allow the flexibility of using Office to generate PDF output, Report Designer and the Report Engines have a toggle to turn on using the Office PDF renderer.

caution

To use this feature, Office must be installed on the server where the PDF output is generated, i.e. where your Report Engine application is installed.

The Use Office for PDF Output Option

In Report Designer, choose the "Microsoft Office" option to use this feature instead of the default, "Windward" or the "PDFTron" option.

To change your PDF Output Builder from the defualt "Windward" Option:

  1. Go to the Fluent Tools Ribbon tab.
  2. Click on "Options".
  3. Underneath PDF Output Builder, choose the "Microsoft Office" option to use this feature.

Now Designer will use Microsoft Office services to render your PDF output.
